What is the Chandler Center for the Arts?

The Chandler Center for the Arts is the premier cultural resource that focuses on leading, advocating and advancing arts and culture in the greater Chandler area for more than 20 years providing quality, diverse and affordable performing and visual arts programs.

The mission of the Chandler Center for the Arts is to serve as a creative driving force, educational resource, and economic engine of entertainment vitality in Chandler by making visual and live performance arts accessible to the entire population.

The Center is known for its quality, live entertainment in an intimate setting, as no seating is further than 99 feet away. The main stage seats 1500 people.

How long has the Center been in operation?

The Center has been in existence since 1989.

What is the Vision Gallery?

As one of the artistic arms of the Chandler Center for the Arts, The Vision Gallery is a non-profit art gallery managed by the Chandler Cultural Foundation. Exhibits are rotated on a regular basis. A portion of all art sales are used to fund the Vision Kidz Program, a series of art education workshops offered to the community free of charge.

How long has the Vision Gallery been in operation?

The Vision Gallery has been in existence since 1997.

Can you explain the relationship between the City of Chandler and the Chandler Unified School District?

The Chandler Center for the Arts is jointly owned and utilized by the City of Chandler and the Chandler Unified School District. The cost of operating and maintaining the Center for the Arts is shared by the city and school district. The school district has scheduling priority Monday through Thursday, and the city has priority Friday through Sunday and during school intersessions.

What role does the Chandler Cultural Foundation play?

The Chandler Cultural Foundation (the “Foundation”) was incorporated in 1989 as a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization and was contracted by the City of Chandler as a means to facilitate programming and fund development for the Chandler Center for the Arts. The Foundation is responsible for both promoting and operating the Center to benefit the community.

While the Chandler Center for the Arts is a City of Chandler and Chandler Unified School District building, it’s artistic and outreach programs are privately supported. The Chandler Center for the Arts receives no direct appropriations for artistic programming. Its appropriations must be applied only to the maintenance and operation of the actual building. Ticket sales and other earned income cover only part of the Center’s programming expenses, which means it must rely on donations in order to deliver quality arts programs at an affordable cost to the public. Membership contributions sustain a spectacular array of services and programs.

What kinds of the events take place at the Center?

Over the past twenty-one years , thousands of patrons have been entertained, educated, thrilled and inspired in this beautifully designed and elegantly accommodating facility enjoying a broad range of programming, including an array of all genres of music - jazz, country, rock, adult contemporary, big band- to dance, comedy, drama, family programming and many other special events.

The Center also serves as a performance site to dozens of performing arts groups in the Phoenix metropolitan area. These groups reflect Arizona’s rich artistry and contribute to the diversity of offerings at the Center.

How many people can the Center seat?

The Main Stage seats 1,500 people and no seating is further than 99 feet away. Additional theatres include the 350-seat Hal Bogle Theatre and the 250-seat Recital Hall.

How many people does the Center serve?

The Chandler Center for the Arts’ programs serves the entire Phoenix-metropolitan area and draws more than 285,000 people each year.

What is the average cost of a ticket to see a performance at the Center?

The Center is the only indoor cultural venue in Chandler, and one of the only venues in the Valley that is able to provide quality programming at a highly competitive cost. For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, the average ticket price to attend an event at the Center was $28.80.

How can you offer ‘no per ticket fees’?

The Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust provided the Chandler Center for the Arts with a $286,000 grant, and a new contract with Ticketmaster has allowed the Center to upgrade its ticketing technology to the extent that online per ticket fees are now a thing of the past. What are the requirements of volunteers?
  • You must be at least 16 years old.
  • You are required to arrive 1 ½ hours prior to show time for volunteer meeting and work assignments.

My group is a nonprofit organization. Can our rental fee be waived?

501 (c) (3) nonprofit organizations receive a 25% discount from our standard rental rates. As a public facility, and in order to ensure equity among all nonprofit renting groups, we do not waive rental fees. However, please be assured that all rental revenues received over and above operating and staffing costs for said rentals are used for public benefit, in order to keep ticket prices affordable and to enable more people to enjoy the arts.

What’s unique about the Center?
  • The Exhibition Hall at the Center offers dozens of free exhibits each year that are open to the public and represent a range of artistic mediums and cultural origins.
  • The Arts Pass program provides free tickets to non-profit agencies to distribute to clients who might otherwise be unable to engage in the arts. The Arts Pass program serves 2,000-3,000 underserved citizens each year.
  • The Vision Kidz Workshop Series at the Vision Gallery is a free workshop series taught by professional artists to children, affording them early exposure to the visual arts and the opportunity to create their own masterpiece. It is one of the only such free programs of arts education for children. Geared for students of all ages, workshops are offered in a variety of mediums such as batik, ceramics, collage, painting, watercolor, drawing, instrument making and more. More than 1,500 children benefit each year from the Vision Kidz Workshops.
  • The Free Summer Concert Series is an annual series of free concerts that has been enjoyed by the public since 1996. For more information click here.
  • Simple, Fast, No Per Ticket Fees! Convenient online ticketing is now at your fingertips 24 hours per day, seven days per week, with no per ticket fees. Patrons can now save time (and gas money!) by buying tickets online, and it costs exactly the same as buying tickets through the Center’s box office.
  • The Community Performing Arts Connection (C-PAC) is about building participation for young people and adults. Launched in 2007, C-PAC provides free student performances, workshops and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for members of the community to work closely with professional performing artists.
  • Additionally, in 2006, the Chandler Center for the Arts received the Governor’s Arts Award in the Community category for outstanding educational, visual and performing arts programs.
