Cultural Arts Specialist (Volunteer Coordinator)

The City of Chandler Cultural Development Department is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Cultural Art Specialist [Chandler Center for the Arts] (Part-time, Regular, benefited). The position is scheduled to work 32 hours a week and may be required to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays, based upon assignment.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinates assigned Cultural Arts programs, activities and operations; provides administrative and operational support and assists with program planning, implementation and community engagement activities.
  • Coordinates communications, schedules, records, program materials, outreach and other administrative activities associated with assigned programs.
  • Provides work direction, training and guidance to volunteers, temporary or contract staff and other personnel as appropriate to assignment.
     

When Assigned to Visual Arts/Gallery Operations:

  • Assists with public art projects and exhibitions; coordinates gallery operations; supports community engagement activities.
  • Manages gift shop activities, including merchandise and inventory selection, artist payments, sales records and related bookkeeping activities.
  • Serves as an on-site gallery representative; coordinates student groups, patrons and program participants; assists with patron safety and emergency procedures; and may serve as staff liaison to the Chandler Arts Commission.
     

When Assigned to Chandler Center for the Arts:

  • Coordinates the day-to-day administration of the volunteer program, including volunteer recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, communications, records, service hours, engagement, retention, recognition and database management.
  • Coordinates, assigns, directs, trains and provides guidance to volunteers supporting performances, rentals, educational programs and community events; develops and facilitates training related to Front of House procedures, patron service, accessibility, emergency evacuation and safety protocols.
  • Serves as House Manager/Manager on Duty for assigned performances, rentals and community events; coordinates Front of House activities, provides direction to volunteers and event personnel, responds to patron needs and assists in ensuring safe and effective event operations.
  • Prepares Front of House materials and assists with event advance preparation; develops and maintains volunteer and Front of House procedures, training materials, handbooks and operational resources; and provides administrative support to the CCA Volunteer Steering Committee.

Minimum qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or GED and 
  • 3 years of experience in cultural arts, visual arts, gallery operations, volunteer coordination, performing arts, event operations, recreation, nonprofit or community programming, customer service or a related field; or 
  • any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
