Pilot Arts Career Program at Conley Elementary
Chandler Center for the Arts is launching a new pilot arts education program during the fall semester of 2026. Designed to introduce elementary students to the many career opportunities behind the curtain, the "Selective Electives" program will provide Conley Elementary School fifth and sixth grade students with an engaging, eight-week exploration of the performing arts industry, with classes held each week.
Unlike traditional arts education programs focused solely on performance, Chandler Center for the Arts' "Selective Electives" introduces students to the full ecosystem of a performing arts center. Through interactive, hands-on lessons, students will explore careers in theater, music, production, marketing, public relations, arts administration, box office operations, fundraising, and more. Each weekly session focuses on a different topic, giving students an opportunity to discover new interests while developing creativity, teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Designed for students with or without previous arts experience, the curriculum encourages participants to think creatively while building confidence and collaboration skills. Every class combines interactive learning, real-world examples, and hands-on activities that connect classroom concepts with professional arts careers.
Supported in part by Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, the program is entering its pilot year in July 2026.
