SAMMY MILLER AND THE CONGREGATION

Celebrate the Music of 1973 at 50

Led by GRAMMY-nominated drummer Sammy Miller, this seven-piece band is on a mission, crisscrossing the country like a vaudevillian revival show with a fervor for music. In this performance, the band celebrates nineteen hundred and seventy-three. From getting it on with Marvin Gaye to the yellow brick road with Elton John, it was a year filled with such fabulous music that they feel it should be spelled out in full! That year also brought us Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, Stevie Wonder's Innervisions, Herbie Hancock's Headhunters and a long list that goes on and on. Join Sammy Miller and the Congregation for their fresh take on these classics...fifty years later. Are you ready to get it on?

They are pulling people out of their solitary lives and putting them in the moment with a bracing dose of joyful jazz performed with infectious theatricality. The New York City-based familial collective performs with frenetic energy and unflinching optimism. From Lincoln Center to The White House, The Newport Jazz Festival to Umbria Jazz, with wide-ranging special guests Wynton Marsalis to Bill Irwin (Macthur Genius Winner 1984), The Congregation has brought a new perspective of jazz to a new generation of listeners.

A native of Los Angeles, Juilliard-trained Sammy Miller has been hailed as "the perfect player scholar” (The Wall Street Journal). The Congregation is a star-studded cast of performs who have played with Jason Mraz, Black Eyed Peas, Beyonce, Lupe Fiasco, Lady Gaga, Rihanna and others. The Congregation has dedicated countless hours to working with over 60,000 students across the world using their groundbreaking PLAYBOOK platform.
